Make your keyboardtruly yours

Entropy is an open-source workspace for keyboards and input devices powered by Vial-QMK or Vial-RMK. Configure layouts, device settings, and desktop tools — from layers and keycodes to lighting and device behavior — in one coherent interface.

Why Entropy

Connect a Vial-QMK or Vial-RMK device and Entropy shows the controls its firmware actually supports. Layout, lighting, and device changes are applied and saved as you work — no firmware rebuild or reflashing.

01

Firmware-aware

Entropy shows only the controls and status data your device exposes, including battery level when available.

02

Built for real hardware

Entropy is not tied to a single model. Connect supported keyboards, macropads, and input devices over USB or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

03

Real-time changes

Every change takes effect and is saved to the device immediately — no firmware rebuild or reflashing required.

Features

From the first layer to the last detail

Layouts, advanced actions, live diagnostics, and daily tools belong together. Entropy keeps them in one visual system so moving from idea to working behavior feels natural.

Layout and Key Picker

Find the right action without breaking your flow

Work across layers and browse keycodes by intent — from basic keys and symbols to modifiers and firmware actions.

Macros and advanced actions

Give one key — or a combination — richer behavior

Build macros, Combos, and Tap Dance actions visually, without editing firmware code by hand.

Import and export

Move the configuration or turn it into a clear reference

Preserve an editable device configuration in .entlayout, or export layers as PNG, SVG, and print-ready PDF.

Layout Indicator

Keep the active layer in sight

Pin a separate window above other apps, adjust its opacity, and follow the current layer and pressed keys without returning to the configurator.

Text Expander

Turn short triggers into text you use every day

Create local expansions for addresses, signatures, and repeated text while keeping every rule visible and under your control.

Typing Trainer

Train speed and accuracy without leaving Entropy

Run timed or word-count exercises, add punctuation and digits, and track your result history.

More capabilities

More than a layout editor

The main workflows are complemented by tools for complex behavior, precise firmware tuning, and everyday work with the device.

Key behavior

Refine how the layout behaves and stays organized.

  • Key Overrides
  • Magic and Grave Escape
  • Copy, mirror, and undo
  • Names for layers and entries

Firmware

Tune the settings exposed by the device.

  • Auto Shift, Tap-Hold, and One Shot
  • Mouse Keys and pointing controls
  • RGB, Layer LEDs, and encoders
  • Modules and device-specific settings

Tools

Test the device and connect it to the desktop.

  • Matrix Tester
  • Universal Symbols
  • Layout Sync
  • Live Features
